Police at parliament restrained a group of youths from Kasese who were holding placards, denouncing what they described as Defence Minister and area MP Crispus Kiyonga’s failure to protect the minority group in the mountainous region.

The youth said government must do more to assure Basongora of their safety from the militancy of Rwenzururu extremist leaders.They (youths) also ruled out claims that ADF was responsible for last Saturday’s attacks.

Only two members from the group were escorted by police to allow them deliver a petition to Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s office.

Over 80 people were confirmed dead when tribal fighters linked to
Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu stormed defence installations in Kasese,
Bundibugyo and Ntoroko districts on Saturday.

Government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo said on Monday that the attackers were carrying weapons with inscriptions, ‘Obusinga youth.
