The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah has called on members of the public accounts committees to instill the fear of God in government officials as they fight corruption.
The Deputy Speaker sounded this caution while meeting a delegation from the Public Accounts Committee of the Nairobi City County Assembly who have been here on a one week’s benchmarking visit.
Rt. Hon. Oulanyah said that there is need for the committee members to be impeccable as the last line of defence of the people whose resources are mismanaged by corrupt officials.
“Put the fear of God in peoples’ hearts, be tough with the people who come before you and take your work seriously because cities are the biggest avenues for the largest corrupt tendencies,” he said.
Oulanyah also advised the delegation to ensure that the resources available are distributed equally to all members of society so that they get an equal share of the national cake.
