By Ahura Mujuni Mark

Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said on Monday that alcoholic drinks will not be allowed at the Uganda Martyrs shrines at Namugongo.

Pilgrims have started to arrive from different parts of the country ahead of the June 3 celebrations. Many people normally carry alcohol to the shrines and end up committing different crimes. Police says this will be unacceptable. Security has also been tightened at the shrines to prevent terrorism acts.

Preparations are also underway at the Uganda Martyrs Anglican Church shrine, which is about 500 metres from the catholic shrine. Construction works of the new Martyrs Museum are being undertaken on site and several other activities are planned throughout the week.
