Pope Francis will unfortunately not visit Uganda this year as it had been planned. The Pope who recently made a year in office was to come to Uganda to preside over the celebrations of the 50 years of the Canonisation of the Uganda Martyrs on October 18.
“The Holy Father did receive our invitation and was very appreciative,” said a statement signed by Gulu Archbishop John Baptist Odama, who chairs the Episcopal Conference.
“However, due to prior commitments, he is unable to visit Uganda this year. We have, therefore, decided to postpone the national celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Canonisation of our Martyrs until further notice. We hope and pray that the Pope’s schedule allows him to visit us in the near future,” he added
Two popes have visited Uganda ;Pope Francis will thus not be the first in the country .Pope John Paul II visited Uganda in 1993 and Paul VI in 1969.
