Opposition members in parliament have threatened to hold a massive public demonstration over the planned re-elections of the Kampala Lord Mayor.

The leader of the opposition in parliament Wafula Ogutu confirmed to news reporters at parliament that the planned fresh elections of the Lord Mayor is illegal since the High Court already announced that Lukwago  is still the  Lord Mayor.

“We have learnt that the electoral commission is finalizing arrangements for the election of a new lord mayor despite the position of the courts of law that the office of the mayor is not vacant” Wafula said.

“The judiciary must stump its authority on the decisions they make in the courts. When a judge makes a decision and the executive chooses to ignore or undermine it, the judiciary as a pillar of the state should come out and make their position clear” He added.

“We wish to appeal to the judiciary to pronounce themselves on the on-going election arrangements for the Lord Mayor in disregard of an order of the high Court” He added
