Uganda’s EALA Representative Fred Mukasa Mbidde is seeking to save Speaker Margret Nantongo Ziwa from censure.

Mbidde has filed a petition before the East African Court of Justice seeking orders stopping anybody from drafting a motion to censure Zziwa.

He told reporters today that the move will hinder the operations of the regional parliament since there is no provision for deputy speaker.

The speaker is accused of rotation of parliamentary sittings, low remuneration and not being able to participate in regional sporting activities.

Last year, the move to censure Speaker Zziwa over her decision to veto rotational sittings of EALA in the five East African Community partner states of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, as has been the custom since 2008 failed.
