Ahmed Tejan Kabbah, the former president of Sierra Leone who oversaw the end of the country’s brutal civil war, has died.
Kabbah died at his home in Freetown, the capital, on Thursday. He was 82 years old, His nephew told The Associated Press.
Kabbah became president in 1996 but was briefly ousted by a military coup before returning to power.
He stepped down in 2007 after serving two terms in office.
