Results from Egypt’s referendum on a new constitution are expected on Friday, Egyptian officials said today
Though most of Mohammed Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood party members boycotted the referendum, a high turnout has been reported.
Nabil Salib, one of the Top election officials told state TV that the voter turnout was higher than in previous polls. He however but gave no precise figure.
A senior interior ministry official also told a private TV channel that turnout in the vote may exceed 55%.He said preliminary results indicated that approval of the constitution may be more than 95%.
The referendum is believed likely to lead to elections later in the year .Gen Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who backed the overthrow of Mr Morsi, is widely expected and stand for Presidency.
