On Thursday legislators passed the Anti-pornography Bil.The bill seeks to ban wearing of miniskirts and further clarify the offence of pornography in Uganda’s laws among other things.
Uganda’s Minister for Ehtics and Integrity has expressed his satisfaction over the bill’s passing saying ,it is his dream come true. “With the enactment of the Bill, my dream has been fulfilled,” said Fr Simon Lokodo
Most legislators in support of the bill argued that pornography and indecent dressing increases sexual crimes against children and women, including rape and child molestation. The Bill claims there has been an increase in pornography in the country.
The Bill’s passing is a throwback to the reign of former dictator Idi Amin who banned miniskirts by decree in Uganda during the 1970s.
It currently awaits approval by president Museveni before becoming law.
