Uganda Red Cross Boss Micheal Nataka has been suspended over allegations of evading tax and smuggling in the name of the Non Governmental Organisation.
The URCS board on Monday resolved to relieve him of duties until investigations into the allegations are complete .The board also set up a team to handle the investigations.
He will be investigated over allegations by Uganda Revenue Authority that he smuggled goods worth Shs800 million disguised as property of URCS with intent to evade taxes.
Nataka however denies the allegations of smuggling saying the good found at his home were destined for the Africa Youth Training Centre in Mukono district owned by URCS.
Polica are also investigating claims that Nataka and other top officials of URCS who were directors/shareholders /proprietors of M/S Musalaba Mwekundu Limited incorporated it in January 2003 as a Limited Company with the intention of using it as a channel to siphon funds and assets belonging to URCS.
