President Yoweri Museveni met UNATU leaders on Friday at State House Entebbe over the teacher’s salary increment .
After the meeting ,James Tweheyo, the general secretary of the Uganda National Teachers Union told the press that government agreed to provide Shs 450bn for salary enhancement for all civil servants in the 2014/15 financial year budget.Of this ,Shs 218bn will go towards increasing teachers’ salaries by 25 per cent.
He added that government acknowledges that with the high commodity prices in the country ,there is need to increase the salaries of civil servants.
Government also promised to involve UNATU in the on going Forensic audit of the payroll .The process is intended to remove ghost teachers from the government payroll.
Last month, teachers across the country laid down their tools to demand a 20% pay rise from government as promised by President Yoweri Museveni in the 2011.
