Tom Clancy author of Jack Ryan novels has died at the age of 66.
Clancy ,the novelist behind best selling spy and military thrillers like Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Hunt for Red October died in a Baltimore hospital near his Maryland home on Tuesday following a short illness.
The cause of death has not been released by the Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was being treated.
The author started writing after saying his dream had been simply to publish a book that would be in America’s Library of Congress catalogue.By the time of his death ,he had more than 25 fiction and non-fiction books .
Clancy set his novels in the context of the Cold War and its aftermath, focusing on espionage and military science with rich attention to technical detail.
Clancy’s final novel, Command Authority, is due to be published in December 2013
Beyond the realm of books, Clancy licensed his name to a series of successful video games such as Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, released in August by Ubisoft.
