Nandala Mafabi’s supports in the Eastern region have vowed to break away from the Forum for Democratic Change party if their man is dropped from the post of leader of Opposition in parliament next month.
The supporters who have held four meetings over the issue, argue that some leaders in FDC have waged a war against Mr Mafabi and want him to lose the seat.
“Some leaders in FDC have waged a war against Mr Mafabi. We have leaders in the party who have retained their positions whenever a reshuffle came up, why is there interest in changing the LoP now?” said Mr Polly Mugoya, the FDC chairperson for Sironko District yesterday
It has also been reported that supporters of the party president Mugisha Muntu have been pressuring him to drop Mr Mafabi, whom they accuse of failing to reconcile with the former.
The party developed a crack following last year’s presidential election. Maj Gen Muntu defeated Mr Mafabi by 32 votes and Mafabi accused the party Secretary General, Alice Alaso of of abusing her position to influence results against him.
The FDC is set to review its leadership in Parliament next month.
Mr Mugoya noted that if Mafabi is dropped they will form another party.
