This year’s Independence Day Celebrations will be held in Rukungiri district.
Uganda’s 51st Independence Day celebrations to be held under the theme, “Re-Energising Uganda’s Investment Potential”.
Over 3,000 guests are expected to attend including the Mozambican president, Armando Guebuza and other Heads of State.
The People’s Development Party (PDP) President Abed Bwanika however criticizes the rotation of Independence celebrations across the country saying ,some districts contributed less to the country’s independence .
“We have no contribution from Rukungiri towards the country’s independence that can justify holding National Independence day celebration from the said district.” Mr Bwanika told the press on Thursday.
Bwanika further noted that several PDP members are to boycott the independence celebrations in Rukungiri stressing that they are organized in an insignificant place. He insists that the celebrations should always be held at Kololo grounds for unity.
The 50th Independence celebrations (Jubilee Celebrations) were held at Kololo grounds with more than 50 dignitaries.
The celebrations was spiced with jubilee-themed cultural performance that was choreographed by renowned thespian Alex Mukulu who told Uganda’s journey across the ages through colour and drama.
