Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is to have surgery for bleeding on the brain, possibly caused by hitting her head in a fall in August.

In August, Fernandez, 60, suffered a cranial trauma, for which doctors conducted a brain scan and found normal results with no symptoms at the time, presidential spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro said Saturday.

However ,doctors at the Buenos Aires-based Favaloro Foundation discovered the hematoma on Saturday after a neurological evaluation, he said.

The President will undergo an operation today.According to Argentina’s constitution, the vice president would assume the presidency temporarily in the president’s absence.

Ms Kirchner’s operation comes only three weeks to the legislative elections in which she hopes to retain control of Congress in the middle of her final term.
