Following Westgate Mall attack incident in Kenya, were so many people lost lives, the speaker of parliament has revealed that, parliament is set to procure CCTV Cameras with the purpose of improving security at parliament.
Ms Rebecca Kadaga told legislators that the parliamentary commission has taken some steps to procure CCTV Cameras to protect MPs and the entire parliament. “It is not the right time to inform you about this program but since the entire EAC region has experienced security threats, it is very important to inform you about this program” The speaker said.
Legislators have condemned the terrorist attack in Kenya and want the Ugandan government to tighten its security because very soon terrorists can make an attack to Uganda.
Kitgum district woman MP Betty Anywar (FDC) noted that Uganda is the only country in the whole world which has free entrance and exit.
“So many people come here without the knowledge of the government and police. We need to tighten our security before terrorists attack us. I also beg parliament to find measures of protecting MPs because so many people can easily access parliament. Parliament has turned into a garage where everybody is free to use parliament parking yard. The wrong people will use that opportunity to attack parliament” She said.
“Government should provide modern security equipments to all security personnel’s to enable them track the wrong doers. We need to protect our country before terrorists attack us” Said Agago district woman MP Franca Akello (FDC).
Meanwhile the minister of internal Affairs Aronda Nyakayirima assured legislators saying , “Our country is safe. It’s not that we have not been attacked. People have so many times threatened to attack us but because we are vigilant. We are also setting up measures to ensure that our country is safe. We very safe and well prepared for terrorists” He noted.
