The Uganda national census is going to take place according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).
UBOS announced that the census will take place in August next year (2014). This communication comes as government ponders upon replacing the customary national population census with Mobile Vital Records System or digital form of registration. The system will enable daily registration of births and deaths in the country.
The national census exercise will enable the collection of information useful for planning, allocating resources and monitoring development programs, according to Godfrey Nabongo, the UBOS communications and public relations manager. The exercise has been shifted, it was supposed to be held in 2012, but was postponed to this year 2013 due to lack of funds, and was postponed again to August 2014.
Uganda last conducted a population and housing census in September 2002.
