Parliament on Wednesday passed the Ministry of Education budget ,disappointing a number of legislators who were in favour of disregarding it until the teachers’ salary increment of 20% is considered.
The budget was passed as a section of legislators insisted that there are areas of raising the required 136 billions required to raise the teachers’ salaries while the parliamentary budget committee declared that the money can not be raised in this financial year.
During an NRM caucus meeting earlier in the week , the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said that government considered infrastructural and ICT development in this financial year ,not teachers salaries.
Before the meeting ,most legislators had vowed not to pass the education budget.
