The Vice Chancellor of Gulu University, Prof. Nyeko Pen-Mogi has been named as the new NEMA boss.
Prof. Nyeko was appointed to the National Environment Authority (NEMA) consisting of 12 member board of directors. He was handed power on Tuesday at Protea Hotel in Entebbe. During the ceremony, Minister of Water and Environment, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu said, “The government will double its efforts in mainstreaming environmental management and ensuring the effects of climate change are alleviated,” he said.
The new board, including the chairman was appointed by Prof. Kamuntu. This is the first time that a board has been appointed; it has been operating for the past year without a board.
The new board has the responsibility of overseeing the activities of NEMA evaluating its performance and approving its budgets among others.
Other board members are Private Sector Foundation boss, Gideon Badagawa, the NEMA executive director, Dr. Tom Okurut, Prof Elly Sabiiti, Dr. Alex Opio, Dr. Wilson Kasolo and Eng. Mugisha Shillingi. Others are James Lutalo, Somon Aplollo Lopwt, George Serunjogi, Miriam Tumukunde and Beatrice Byaruga.
