President Yoweri Museveni has launched the Runyoro Rutooro- English dictionary ,Katondogorozi and hailed the author for promoting the language just like he did by writing the Runyankore – Rukiga Dictionary.
The Runyoro Rutooro dictionary was authored by Mzee Lazaro Tinkasimire Rubongoya who has now made 90 years.
The launch that took place at Mountains of the Moon Hotel in FortPortal town also involved marking the 90th birthday of Mr. Rubongoya.
Mr Rubongoya said that writing the dictionary took him over 50 years.
Mzee Rubongoya is a veteran broadcaster and writer of several Runyoro- Rutooro books.
In his address Museveni said that if we allow our languages to die, we shall be destroying humanity, adding that it is a crime against humanity to allow the indigenous languages to die.
He pledged a donation of Shs 60 million to Mzee Rubongoya in appreciation of his outstanding contribution to promoting the Runyoro- Rutooro language.
