The marriage of Micheal Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones is on the rocks but the couple do not want to give up, not just yet.
The 44-year-old Red 2 actress and her 69-year-old husband who recently revealed his battle with throat cancer share the same birthday, 25th Sept. but spent it separately.
Douglas is in New Mexico shooting the upcoming thriller “The Reach” while, Zeta-Jones is in Bedford, New York, with their children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, who are back in school. Michael and Catherine are fighting to salvage their relationship.
“We’re working things out, talking, and we’ll see how she goes,” Michael told People on Sunday after he thanked his “wife” during his award acceptance speech. “It’s been a great professional year for me, and the personal life is doing fine.” He even said Zeta-Jones sent him a “lovely note” just before the Emmys.
“They’re not giving up,” a source close to the Oscar-winning actress said. “It’s not contentious between them.”
“I want to thank my wife, Catherine, for her support,” he said from the stage while accepting the award.
“Any other couple would have split by now. It’s a testament to them that they hung on,” a source said. “My sense is that he wants the marriage to work.”
