The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has reassured Parliament that inspite of gaining a new status as CWP Chair, she will remain in Uganda.
Rt. Hon. Kadaga was last week voted the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Association (International) in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The CWP is a forum that offers women an opportunity to exchange ideas on policies and strategies that have worked and resulted in increased women participation in political leadership in Commonwealth countries. It has membership based on regions of Africa, Asia, Australia, British Islands and the Mediterranean Region, Canada, the Caribbean, Atlantic and America. As Chairperson, Hon. Kadaga oversees all women parliamentarians activities in these regions.
In her first sitting after her election, Rt. Hon. Kadaga expressed gratitude to Members for their support in the run up to the election and requested for further support in the new position.
“I look forward to further support from Members as I head the CWP. I will be working in Kampala. I am not leaving the country,” she said.
