The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) has issued an arrest warrant for British ‘White Widow’ terror suspect Samantha Lewthwaite at request of the Kenyan government.
The police agency, however , says the arrest is in relation to offences that took place in 2011 and are not linked to the Westgate Shopping Mall attack in Nairobi over the weekend.Shortly after the attack ,reports linked the ‘White Widow’ to the attack when some observers said that they had spotted a white woman among the mall attackers.
Lewthwaite was reportedly praised in what was believed to be a Twitter account run by al-Shabaab, the Somali militant group which claimed responsibility for the attack.
On the contrary ,Interpol have issued a Red Notice warrant for the so-called “White Widow” of Jermaine Lindsay, one of the four suicide bombers who launched the 7/7 suicide attacks on London without linking her to the Westgate Mall attack.
Instead, it stated that Lewthwaite was “wanted by Kenya on charges of being in possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony in December 2011”. The warrant activated an international “trip wire” for Lewthwaite, Ronald K Noble, the Interpol Secretary-General, said.
