The Minister of Education Jessica Alupo has directed all government aided school heads across the country to open on Monday and enable students start their third term.
The direction follows the announcement of a nationwide strike by the Uganda National Teachers’ Union-UNATU due to the government’s failure to increase the teacher’s salaries by at least 20% .
A statement issued by the Ministry of Education on Tuesday directs Chief Administrative Officers through their DEOs and Inspectors of Schools to ensure that all schools are opened as scheduled.
The statement also instructs Headteachers to report to their duty stations to receive parents and their children.
Minister Alupo says that negotiations between Government and teachers concerning the teachers salary increment will continue adding that their is no need to suspend teaching.
“All teachers are called upon not to sacrifice their professional ethics and abandon their learners at this critical moment,” reads the statement in part
