According to the source that attended the meeting in Entebbe, President Museveni officially communicated to MPs that he will increase teacher’s salary in the next financial year 2014/2015.
“We have failed to find teachers money but we are willing to fulfill our commitment on teachers salary increment next financial year.We have tried our level best to look for teacher’s money but we have failed to find the money. I therefore urge you (NRM MPs) to go and tell teachers that we will get their money come 2014/15 financial year” The president noted.
The MPs insisted that government must fulfill its commitment on teacher’s salary of which the president said that there is no money for teachers.
Parliament last week insisted that they will not approve this year’s budget until government finds teachers money.
The NRM MPs were told to go and approve the MoE budget as teachers wait for salary increment next year.
It’s now about the speaker to maintain her position on teacher salary increment as she communicated earlier and she directed the ministry of finance to corroborate with parliamentary committee on budget and look for the teachers’ money.
Speaker Kadaga directed the committee to cut the ministries travels, vehicle allowance and workshops and find teachers money and report back to parliament today.
The country is waiting to see weather MPs are going with president’s stand of not increasing teachers this financial year or will go with speaker Kadaga’s decision of not passing this year’s education budget until the teachers’ money is found.
