George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie Zimmerman filed for divorce yesterday, Thursday despite her husband being acquitted of murder.
Less than two months ago, Zimmerman was acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin. A week after Zimmerman being acquitted, Shellie pleaded guilty to perjury in his case, a confession that earned her a year’s probation and 100 hours of community service.
Shellie, through her lawyer, Kelly Sims said she decided to take the decision because of “disappointment”. 26-year-old Shellie last week told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that she had serious doubts about remaining married to Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was arrested for shooting the 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012 who later passed away. He however was acquitted of all charges including second-degree murder.
Zimmerman’s brother, Robert Zimmerman, wrote on Twitter: “Pray 4 them.”
Shellie Zimmerman admitted to ABC that she did not tell the truth during the bail hearing. “I can rationalize a lot of reasons for why I was misleading, but the truth is that I knew I was lying,” she said. “I’ve made mistakes and I want to own them right now,” she added,
