First Lady Janet Museveni donated her convoy ambulance to Matany Missionary Hospital in Napak District to transport expectant mothers from remote areas.
Brother Guenther Naehrich ,the hospital administrator says the hospital has received the ambulance saying it is a great relief to the hospital .
“It has been very hard to pick patients from remote health centres to the main hospital but now with the ambulance, it will be easy,” Brother Naehrich said
The First Lady has also vowed to see that the hospital recovers its confiscated ambulance . The ambulance serving at Matany Missionary Hospital, the largest health facility in the district was confiscated by court bailiffs at Moroto Chief Magistrate Court.
The ambulance was attached following a ruling by the Moroto Chief Magistrate, Mr Moses Mutazindwa, that the training wing of the hospital, Matany School of Nursing, had wrongfully dismissed a student who was reportedly caught stealing drugs in the hospital.
The student sued the hospital and was awarded Shs35 million in damages. The hospital could not raise the money, compelling bailiffs take the ambulance.
At least 20 mothers died following the confiscation of the ambulance.
