With the increasing women emancipation going around, it comes as no surprise when men, instead of women, in this era, take up their wives’ last names.
You would think that this is not so with celebrities but below, we bring you a list of celebrity men who opted to take over their wives’ last names.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter is now legally known as Shawn Knowles-Carter.
Acort Lorenzo Lamas married Shawna Craig in 2011. He later changed his name to Lorenzo Lamas-Craig.
Jack White of The White Stripes is married to Meg White in 1996. He changed his name from Jack Gillis to Jack White and retained it after their divorce in 2000.
Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles mayor combined both his wife’s name and his to create a brand-new name. He married Corina Raigosa in 1987. Originally known as Atonio Villar,, he combined his name and hers into “Villaraigosa.” Despite their 2007 divorce, they both continued to use their name.
Jay Mohr decided to give his wife, Nikki Cox a gift for their two year year marriage by changing his last name becoming Ferguson Cox Mohr. They were married in 2006.
Todd Fink of indie band The Faint has his wife’s last name, singer Orenda Fink. The two married in 2005, and Todd changed his name from Baechle to Fink saying at the time, she was in the midst of launching her solo career, it seemed weird for her to change her name. “I just thought she should still be Orenda Fink… it’s easier to spell and say Fink than my name. I couldn’t think of any reason except for expectation not to change my name instead of hers. So I did. I like change,” Fink said.
John Lennon took the last name of his wife, Yoko Ono, in 1969. “Yoko changed her name for me, I’ve changed mine for her. One for both, both for each other. She has a ring, I have a ring. It gives us nine ‘O’s between us, which is good luck. Ten would not be good luck.” His legal name when he died was John Winston Ono Lennon, and hers was Yoko Ono Lennon.
