The baby who got the wrath of her stepmother when she was inserted with razor blades in her private parts is in a worse state.
The parents of the one month old Zainah Nakuwugu are now saying there is puss oozing out of the toddler’s private parts.
Zainah was inserted with razor blades by her stepmother who was only identified as Namuwonge over their husband. Doctors managed to remove more than three pieces of razor blades from the baby’s private parts and were still removing more. According to the doctors, the girl would need to undergo an operation to remove more pieces which would render her childless in later years if her uterus is removed.
“She is oozing puss but the doctors have asked me to remain calm until Monday when the results are expected to be ready,” said Lydia Namaganda, Zainah’s mother. MIFUMI, a development and women rights organisation, has offered to take care of her treatment.
Namuwonge and Namaganda are said to have had continued quarrels over their husband. They stay in Nyendo, Masaka and live about 1.5km from each other. Namuwonge is said to have sent her sisters to find Namaganda’s actual apartment. Namaganda is a land lady with several rental housing units, and Namuwonge wanted to know her actual residence.
“Two girls [her sisters] came here pretending to be looking for a house to rent and we told them that there was none except for the ones under construction,” Maama Patricko, a neighbour recalled. “They were persistent and after identifying the landlady’s apartment they left,” Maama Patricko said.
Four hours after the girls disappeared, the baby was attacked when her two siblings had gone out playing. At the time, Zainah was sleeping. When their mother came back, she nursed the cuts on her limbs which she had been inflicted on. “I tried massaging it but something pierced me that is when I realised that there was something wrong,” the teary Namaganda said.
Days later, her co-wife returned and hid in one of the incomplete apartments but was spotted by the neighbors, who arrested her and handed her over to the police.
