The baby from Masaka who was inserted with razor blades in her private parts by her step mother was transferred to Mulago Referral hospital as her situation worsens.
Zainah Nakawungu was admitted to Mulago hospital for treatment after a September 6 attack by her stepmother, Stella Namuwonge who inserted several pieces of razor blades into her private parts.
To facilitate her transfoer, there was a fundraising by well-wishers from Stanbic bank and Bank of Uganda, who raised Shs 1.5m. According to Elizabeth Nekesa, a Stanbic bank official, they were touched by the story. “We were all touched by her condition and that is why we decided to mobilise money and ensure that she gets better treatment,” said Nekesa on Saturday.
“We have to prove whether all the pieces of razor blade that had been inserted in her private parts were removed and if there are still more, they should be removed. My colleagues and I have vowed to provide all the necessary requirements in terms of money,” she said.
Nekesa said they would collect more money if what had been raised was insufficient. The baby was initially taken to Princeton Children’s clinic at Kololo for free preliminary check up and later admitted to Mulago hospital.
Meanwhile, the stepmother has been transferred from Nyendo to Masaka police station, as police continue with investigations. District Police Commander Henry Kavuma said they were waiting for the doctor’s report before proceeding with prosecution.
