By Emmanuel Omona

The Resident District Commissioner for Gulu District, James Navinson Kidega has encouraged the youth in Gulu to develop the culture of saving.

Kidega was speaking at a function organized to commemorate the International Youth day in Gulu district.

Kidega explained that the youth can only have wealth if they begin to save every day.

“I see many of you every day drinking and gambling in town. This is a clear sign that you do not save. You will remain poor if you do not”, Kidega argued.

Patrick Komakech, the youth leader for Gulu district echoed Kidega’s concern but said that the youth may be able to save if they are employed.

Komakech urged the government to create employment to the youth so that they may be able to save from their earnings.

The International Youth day in Gulu was postponed from 12th of August due to what the district leaders called poor coordination between the youth leaders.

Uganda celebrated the International Youth day 2013 under the theme: ‘Youth Migration: Moving Development Forward.’
