The Tororo Grade One magistrate’s court has remanded a 36-old-woman to Morukatipe prison Tororo for alleged child trafficking. The Grade One magistrate Joan Achan remanded Mary Gorretti Akello a resident of Amagoro ‘’B’’ in Tororo municipality on Tuesday without taking plea.
Akello committed the offence in March 2013 when she allegedly trafficked Susan Ajok a primary five pupil of Oguti primary school for the purpose of exploitation and went into hiding after the information about her business spilled out.
On a related development, the police had earlier warned the public against allowing children to socialize with strange people following the reported increase of child trafficking related cases especially at the border towns.
According to the police spokesperson for Malaba region Michael Odongo, most of the children trafficked cross to Kenya where they are being used as house maids while others fall to be victims of human sacrifice to appease evil spirits.
