The parliamentary committee on tourism, trade and industry chaired by Kyegegwa district woman MP Flavia Kabahenda has today discovered that Uganda Wild Life Authority uses shs100M to bury every financial year.

The angry MPs grilled officials from UWA  led by their boss Dr Andrew Sseguya and forced   them to provide accountability of the money.

The committee boss said that “This is thuggery of the highest order. Hippos die but their meat is on high demand by the people. We want to know where exactly you bury these hippos. These people must account for this money without fail”.

The MPs later threw UWA officials out of the committee for failing  to explain why they are not reorganized by the ministry of tourism.

The committee also discovered that since 2009 UWA has not been catered for in the ministry of trade policy statements.

“It seems there is a hidden Agenda to why UWA has taken over five years without being reorganized by the line ministry. We have summoned the minister of tourism, wild life and heritage Mariam Mutagamba tomorrow to come and explain to why UWA budget were not included in the ministry’s policy statement for this financial year.” Said the committee boss Flavia Kabahenda.

“These people spend close to shs50M every financial year but the money is not monitored and audited. They should account for that money” She added

UWA gets close to shs50 M from entry and recreational activities Entrance fees for both visitors and vehicles, camping fees, landing fees, filming, ranger guide fees, Gorilla tracking, Ferry trackings, fishing permits, mountain climbing, and vehicle hire among others.

The angry MPs want UWA to account for this money, failure to do so their budget will not be approved .
