The Uganda communication commission has confirmed that, they will switch off all unregistered Sim-cards at the end of this month (August 2013).
According to UCC boss Godfrey Mutabazi, switching off all unregistered SIM cards is aimed at meeting regional communication standards like what has been done in other countries.
“Those who have failed to register their SIM cards should do it before the end of this month. This time we shall not extend time for SIM card registration as it has been done. We extended the period of SIM card registration which expires at the end of this month those who haven’t registered, they are risking being switched off,” Mutabazi confirmed.
Meanwhile the minister of security Muruli Mukasa has also confirmed that,92% of Ugandans have registered their SIM cards and 8% haven’t yet registered.
“We are calling all Ugandans who haven’t yet registered their SIM cards to do it before 31st this month.UCC will not hesitate from switching off all unregistered SIM cards by the end of this month.” He said
