RDCs in Teso Sub Region have been classified as the most highly indebted and bankrupt in Eastern Uganda by Microfinance Support Centre. This comes after they had been accused of failing to service their loans in time.
According to a report released recently by the microfinance support centre, Mr Charles Kurwa [Amuria] and Mr Ben Etonu [Soroti] topped the list of loan defaulters.
Mr Kurwa owes the lender shs8,680,000 while Mr Etonu has not been in position to pay back the shs2,840,000 that he reportedly borrowed from the finance institution.
According to Mr Paul Okiror, the chairperson of Asamuk united SACCO; the high levels of indebtedness amongst leaders in Teso can easily be attributed to their lavish lifestyles. He also said that it had become a common trend for people to fail their debts in the region.
