There is suspected outbreak of Ebola virus in Agago district.

A nurse at the hospital, who preferred anonymity , said that they had admitted a patient on Tuesday morning but he escaped from the hospital on Wednesday.

The Nurse also added that there were 4 more cases reported in Omot Sub County and they are all being treated at Kalongo Hospital.

The District Health Officer, Dr Emmanuel Otto, though did not justify  that it is Ebola , said that there were some patients admitted at Kalongo Health centre with signs similar to the deadly Ebola Haemorrhagic fever virus.

Sources in Agago stated that the district emergency team is holding a meeting at Kalongo Hospital to seek ways for intervention.

A team from the Ministry of Health are said to be traveling to Agago district to assess the suspected deadly Ebola virus.

In 2000, an Ebola outbreak killed over 200 people in Gulu district. The disease also killed a Nurse and a prominent doctor at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor, Dr Matthew Lukwiya
