The Speaker of Parliament Kadaga Rebecca has reaffirmed the need to have an open vetting process when Parliamentary Appointments committee is screening people appointed by the president in different positions.
Speaker Kadaga revealed this while addressing legislators from Kenya and Somaliland who are on study visit in Uganda’s parliament.
Kadaga who happens to be the boss of appointments committee at parliament said that, the work of the committee that meets in camera is affected by speculation from non members of the committee.
The Rules of Procedure that governs Parliament provide that all the meetings of the Appointments Committee should be closed.
A proposal to have an open vetting committee was tabled in parliament and was rejected.
She noted the need for the legislators across the region to share experiences with a view of improving participation in governance and decision making.
Kadaga’s proposal comes when the appointments committee is meeting tomorrow to vet the appointed members of the land board.
