Sh19 billion has been available for the youth once again in another youth initiative meant to help fund the youth in a bid to reduce the alarming unemployment rates in the youth.
According to the state minister for finance, Fred Jachan Omach, the money was requested to kick-start a multi-billion Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and will be released soon. “I have received the request for sh19 billion from the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social development to kick-start your project (YLP). I want to assure the youths that, the funds are available and will be released,” Omach said.
Omach made the announcement during the belated district National Youths Day Celebrations at Omach Primary School playground in Pakwach Town Council, in Nebbi district on Saturday.
YLP targets youth between 18 and 30 years. The beneficiaries must be living in slums, single parents, youth with disability, youth who have completed secondary school or tertiary institutions and school dropouts.
This however is not the first initiative meant for the youth to help curb poverty in the country. However, the previous funds have been swept under the blanket with little or no access to the funds.
