The lawyers of Blade Runner and Paralympic winner, Oscar Pistorius are seeking to settle outside of court with his dead girlfriend’s family, Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius’s lawyers want to settle with Reeva’s family financially before the court trial which is set to begin next year March 3rd and expected to end by 20th of the same month. His lawyers however want to settle with Reeva’s parents as soon as possible.
The lawyers from both sides are in between talks with the aim of reaching an early financial settlement. If it is approved, Reeva’s parents would receive the money faster and at the same time Pistorius will be protected from what could be a civil award; It has been estimated in the South African press at $300,000.
Reeva Steenkamp allegedly used to support her family financially before her untimely death caused by shots fired by Pistorius at his home on February 14. According to the Times, both sets of lawyers admitted that discussions were taking place between the parties but declined to comment on their nature or content.
Pistoris was indicted on Monday in the murder of Reeva which he says was an accident as he mistook her for an intruder.
