Oscar Pistorius has been indicted in the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp whom he murdered on February 14th, Valentines day allegedly mistaking her for an intruder.
A trial date has been set for March beginning 3rd March 2014 to 20th March 2014. Pistorius appeared in court for indictment. He is currently free after being granted bail in February and is on low-key training.
Prosecutor Gerrie Nel said he planned to transfer case to the high court: “We have prepared the indictment.”
State prosecutors argue that Pistorius’s killing of Reeva was premeditated, a charge which if convicted carries a sentence of life imprisonment. They say he killed his girlfriend intentionally after a fight. However, the 26 year old says he shot and killed his girlfriend mistakenly thinking she was an intruder.
The prosecution handed over details of its case against Mr Pistorius at Monday’s hearing, including a witness list and forensic reports.
