Although the rains are back, it is only those with iron roofed houses in Ngora who benefit from the free water. However, those residing in grass thatched houses at the moment have to trek for miles in search for water following the disconnection of power to the pump house at Aagu pump station on Serere Road.
According to Engineer Richard Okiror, the Ngora Water supplies pump manager, Ngora Town Council had already paid all the power bills yet UMEME went ahead to disconnect power to the pump station, crippling the water supply network in the town council.
“To make matters worse, our generator is of low wattage and can’t run the water pump,” Mr Okiror said
Mr Okiror also appealed to residents to use the available water economically since it wasn’t clear when the power will be restored to the power station soon.
Students of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the area a fortnight ago delivered their petition to the Ngora Water officer demanding that the matter be worked on since it was affecting their studies and examinations. They were reportedly promised that something would be done about the matter.
