The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Mukono ,Martin Mugabi, has noted that Africa has perpetually lagged behind other continents in development because of neglect to science teaching in schools.
Mr. Mugabi who represented the Vice President Edward Sekandi at the science fair for St. Thereza Namiryango Girls Primary School in Goma Division, urged school administrators to take on the challenge as a way of making a breakthrough for the continent’s future.
The Deputy RDC appealed to parents to support girl children to take science subjects so that they are not left behind by boys in what he termed a ‘scientific and competitive era’.
He advised science teachers to ensure that the pupils transform into reality what they exhibit, rather than staging exhibitions as a formality for the day, and later discard all ideas.
The School headmistress Sr. Hilda Tibarindeka outlined constraints faced by the school including slackening of work of construction of a multi-purpose buildings as a result of the slow pace of school fees payment by parents.
