Members of parliament say , all ministers in line of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development should resign for negligence of their duties.
The MPs revealed this during the debate of the Ugandans who were taken to Dubai, India, China and Iraq to work and turned them into prostitutes.
This came after the parliamentary committee of Gender, Labour and Social development and the committee of equal opportunities presented reports concerning the situations Ugandan women who operate in those countries.
MP Peter Ogwang while debating at the floor called the ministers to resign for neglecting their duties because many organizations traffic people without the knowledge of the line ministers.
The proposal for the ministers to resign was seconded by Kigulu south MP Milton Muwuma and Bukoto east MP Florence.
“These issues are under these ministers, if they are incompetent, they should resign because they don’t know their work” Said Hon Muwuman Milton.
“These people should be held accountable for the plight and the suffering of our girls in Arab countries most especially the girls who were taken to work there and turned into sexual workers. The line ministers should resign for failing to fall these girls” Said Bukoto east MP Florence Namayanja.
“These ministers should bring back all our girls who are suffering in Arab countries and they (ministers) should be held accountable to why our girls were taken without their knowledge” Said Busia district woman MP Kevina Ttaka.
The ministry of gender, labour and social development has five ministers which include, Mary Karoro Okurutu, Rukiah Nakadama, Suleiman Madada and Ronald Kibule.
Minister Karoro told the angry legislators that she has just been appointed in the ministry and she will do all the need full to stop the matter.
“Hon members you shouldn’t blame me because am also a junior in the office .We should allow debate on this matter instead of fighting on the floor because I know am capable of doing something good” Minister Karoro said.
The MPs got angry and asked the ministers to resign after they were informed by the chairperson of parliamentary committee on equal opportunities Anifa Kawooya that over 300-400 Uganda women are exploited in India and other 400 in China.
The MPs got angry and put the ministers in the ministry of Gender to task and explain about the girls in Arab countries.
“It seems the ministry of gender connives with these culprits to traffic our girls. We should bring all the culprits to book and explain why they sell our girls to the Arabs. They should be confiscated, punished and their licenses be canceled” Said Kyenjojo district woman MP Linda Timbigamba.
“Am so dis-appointed.People who sell Ugandans to Arabs are Ugandans. They should be taken for technical treason for selling Ugandans to Arab countries” Said Mbarara municipality MP Medard Bitekyerezo.
Both the reports recommends that trafficking people itself a human violation that results in a series of abuse such as forced labour, rape, torture, confinement and murder.
Hon Kawoya say that “Treatment of human beings as commodity products that are bought and sold against their will is a violation of these person’s basic rights to human dignity”.
