MPs want Uganda’s gold medal winner ,Stephen Kiprotich to be appointed presidential advisor on sports.
Kasanda North MP ,Godfrey Lubega , urged government on Tuesday to award Kiprotich the post for what he has done for the country .
Kiprotich was appearing before parliament in a special recognition session following his victory at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow.
Hon Lubega noted that, appointing Kiprotich a presidential advisor on sport will help in discovering other talents who will lift Uganda in future.
“We have so many presidential advisors including presidential advisor on markets.Mr president should appoint Kiprotich a presidential advisor on sports to enable him discover more talents across the country” He said.
“He has set a history of this country. He should be given the role of promoting sports in the country. His sweat should be his sweat. His money shouldn’t even be taxed” Said Busongola county south MP Boaz Kafuda.
Bulisa county MP Steven Mukitale further appealed to KCCA boss Jennifer Musisi to rename Acacia Avenue to Kiprotich Avenue because calling it Acacia has no meaning.
He further castigated government for not keeping its promises. He said that government promised to build a mansion for female athlete Dorcus Inzikuru but until now she is still demanding the house.
Bundibugyo district woman MP Harriet Ntabazi appealed government to provide security to Kiprotich.
“Kiprotich has two Gold medals now and you know Gold is money. People of the wrong character may attack Kiprotich with the purpose of grabbing Gold from him. Government must provide Kiprotich with security to help him escape people of wrong characters” She noted.
