Legislators sitting on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee yesterday asked the Ministry of Finance to look for money and settle the outstanding arrears worth 400 billion shilling accumulated as a result of Compensation and court awards.
This was after the Committee’s refusal to the request by the ministry of Finance to first receive a white paper from ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs detailing the modalities of how to pay of the money and the reason why Government continue to lose cases in Court.
The shadow Attorney General Abdu Katuntu who is a member of the Committee said that, the Ministry of Finance must stop buying time but look for money and settle the outstanding earlier.
He said some of the People waiting for their compensation are Business men who took loans and entered contract with Government and it faulted therefore something must be done to settle than waiting for a white which he said will not solve the problem.
However some of the Members have pointed an accusing finger at the Justice and Finance officials whom they accuse of connivance leading to the loss of billions of money at the expense of tax payer’s money.
