Members of parliament on the committee on trade, tourism and industry have opposed a plan by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities to shift their offices to Rwenzori courts.
The committee argues that instead of wasting resources in renting, the ministry should construct its own premises on their own land.
The MPs said that the 1.4 billion shillings that the ministry will be paying in rent every year can be topped up to construct their own home.
The committee has in its report on the ministerial policy statement also recommended that government front loads the funds meant for rent to construct the ministry’s office premises.
Ministry of tourism has paid close to 4.5 billion shillings for a three year tenancy of office space at Rwenzori Towers.
