The shadow minister of youth, Benard Atiku has appealed to government to create an independent ministry for sports and games to look into the matters of sports in this country like what other countries do.
While addressing news reporters at parliament, Mr Atiku said that creating an independent ministry on sports and games will help to stop the diversion of sports funds by individuals.
“The ministry of sports should be channeled from education sector and have its own minister to enable the minister to discovering talents in the country. We want government to invest in sports like what other countries do.” He noted.
The shadow minister also demanded government to fulfill all pledges made to the few sports men and women who have struggled to keep the hope of the country in games and sports.
“I appeal government to fulfill its pledge of constructing and name stadiums in memory of successful athletes like the late Akibua John stadium and Dorcus Inzikuru stadium. Government also pledged to construct a mansion to Inzikuru but till now nothing has been yet done to her” He said.
