In the bid to reduce the heavy traffic flow on the northern by pass, the ministry of works and transport is seeking for shs40 billion to
purchase land for the expansion of the road.
The state minister for works John Byabagambi told the parliamentary committee on physical infrastructure that they plan to remove all the roundabouts long the bypass and replace them with flyovers.
The bypass was designed in order to divert heavy trucks from the city center but it has currently become convenient for every one causing heavy traffic jam.
Minister Byabagambi says that among the people to be affected are the vendors at Kalerwe market, since 50% of the market is to be taken.
Meanwhile the executive director of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Ssebbugga Kimeze noted that shs 40bn needed will be used to acquire 31 acres.
