The State Minister for Primary Health Care, Ms Sarah Achieng Opendi, has warned traders in the Eastern district of Tororo against their insistence on holding industrial parking activities in the main street saying that it is more likely to cause a health hazard to the population.
She said that the dust from the cement stores that was still being inhaled continuously as they are being offloaded would turn out to be hazardous to the lives of the traders.
This revelation was made while in a meeting with the area MPs and traders in the town. She went ahead to say that the huge trucks that often parked alongside by the narrow streets were likely to increase the rate of accidents as both pedestrians and motorists continue to struggle for accessibility of the narrowed road.
On the other hand, the senior assistant town clerk in charge of Western Division, Mr Felix Gabriel Ofwono said that all was being done to ensure that traders who deal in goods that require a lot of space would be shifted soon and that all owners of hardware houses and depots would be relocated from the main street.
