Police in Butambala have arrested the Kibibi Grade Two Magistrate for alleged abuse of office and corruption.
Perry Muhumuza, who is in charge of Kibibi and Kamengo Grade Two magistrates courts, was picked up from his chambers after complaints of corruption were filed at the Office of the Inspector General of Government.
He was arrested by Butambala District Police Commander Musa Kayongo.
He was arrested alongside side a court clerk only identified only Saidat and the two are currently being detained at Kampala Central Police Station.
The police spokesperson for Katonga and Wamala Regions Phillip Mukasa, says Muhumuza was picked up after a woman whose identities were withheld by the force complained to the IGG about the magistrate after he reportedly asked her for bribe of 200,000 shillings to secure a court bail and close the case of the accused person who was facing charges of malicious damage to property.
Mukasa explains that the police and IGG officers stormed the magistrates court and found the court in possession of a 20,000 shillings note which the complaint alleged to have given out as bribe to the magistrate.
The bank note had already been photocopied as part of the investigations.
Mukasa says the note has been confiscated and kept as exhibit as investigations into the matter continue.
